American Socialism & Chinese Capitalism

American Thinker | Raymond Richman & Howard Richman | Sep. 7, 2009

Why is GM, a capitalist firm, so successful in Communist China and a failure in Capitalist USA? Apparently, the Chinese learned from the economic failures of socialism while the US Congress learned nothing and actively intervenes in the decision-making of American capitalist firms, imposing environmental restrictions few of which would pass the economic test that benefits should be equal to or greater than cost. It subsidizes energy-saving activities like insulating buildings, buying energy-saving autos and even light bulbs, none of which would survive the light of day as producers of net benefits. It orders banks to make bad loans, e.g., the Community Reinvestment Act. Through the EPA, it regulates factory emissions. It proposes a socialist solution to health care. It has declared its policy to replace fossil fuels with renewable alternative fuels. It pays a large portion of the costs of wind turbines and solar panels. The list goes on an on. [Read more…]

Global Warming and the Poor

Wall Street Journal | Bret Stephens | Aug. 5, 2009

A funny thing happened on the way to saving the world’s poor from the ravages of global warming. The poor told the warming alarmists to get lost.

This spring, the Geneva-based Global Humanitarian Forum, led by former U.N. General Secretary Kofi Annan, issued a report warning that “mass starvation, mass migration, and mass sickness” would ensue if the world did not agree to “the most ambitious international agreement ever negotiated” on global warming at a forthcoming conference in Copenhagen. Cap and Trade: The Big Con

American Thinker | John Griffing | July 3, 2009

Masquerading as an instrument of environmental salvation, the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill will result in one of the largest seizures of wealth in human history. The legislation will wreak havoc on American manufacturing and industry, and coerce the conformity of an already economically squeezed populace. The bill is a transparent power grab, based on a fictional crisis-the left’s ever-dependable threat of global warming. [Read more…]

Shocker: ‘Global Warming’ Simply No Longer Happening

The Global Warming Cultists will not like these latest developments.
WorldNetDaily | March 22, 2009

Temperatures dropping, fewer hurricanes, arctic ice growing, polar bear population up.
This may come as bad news for Al Gore. The modest global warming trend has stopped – maybe even reversed itself.

And it’s not just the record low temperatures experienced in much of the world this winter. For at least the last five years, global temperatures have been falling, according to tracking performed by Roy Spencer, the climatologist formerly of NASA. [Read more…]

Global Hurricane Activity Reaches New Lows

So much for Al Gore’s so called “predictions” and scaremongering. The Glogal Warming Cultists are wrong yet again.
Florida State University | Ryan Maue | Mar. 14, 2009

Tropical cyclone (TC) activity worldwide has completely and utterly collapsed during the past 2 to 3 years with TC energy levels sinking to levels not seen since the late 1970s. This should not be a surprise to scientists since the natural variability in climate dominates any detectable or perceived global warming impact when it comes to measuring yearly integrated tropical cyclone activity. Four big problems with cap-and-trade

Massive tax increases, energy regulation, high prices for electricity, and reduced econmic growth as far as the eye can see. And it’s only week six (6) of Obama’s catastrophic presidency.
DC Examiner | Irwin M. Stelzer | Mar. 6, 2009

Obama hopes to adopt a cap-and-trade system similar to Europe’s Emissions Trading Scheme. The government will decide how many tons of CO2 can safely be emitted, and then auction off permits to emitters of these greenhouse gases. Expected proceeds [tax increases on all consumers] over ten years: $645 billion.

Polluters [C02 is not a polutant] who can cut their emissions at low cost will be able to do just that, and sell their permits to companies that find it cheaper to buy permits than to clean up their production processes. Not a bad idea — in theory. But here’s the rub — or more precisely, rubs. [Read more…]

Unstoppable Global Warming

FrontPageMagazine.com | E. Ralph Hostetter | Feb. 13, 2009

Former Vice President and Nobel Laureate Albert A. Gore Jr. was in the news again. Braving an ice storm, he appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in its first hearing in the new Congress to plead his case on global warming. The real purpose of his appearance should send shivers down the spine of every American taxpayer. On this visit he brought the tax man with him. That’s right! Al Gore wants Congress to impose a tax that could be considered a tax on climate. He describes his new tax as “putting a price on carbon.” [Read more…]

Save The Children From Global Warming Propaganda

American Thinker | Marc Sheppard | Feb. 5, 2009

He alone, who owns the youth, gains the Future – Adolf Hitler, 1935

No regime in modern history exploited propaganda as diabolically and successfully as did the Third Reich, thanks, in large part, to its focus on those most vulnerable to their ideological manipulation — children. And with more American adults seeing the cold truth behind warming misinformation, alarmists are stepping up efforts to brainwash our schoolchildren using a playbook that would have impressed Joseph Goebbels himself. Dissing Hansen

American Thinker | Peter C Glover | Feb. 2, 2009

In November 2008, NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), run by Dr James Hansen, and one of the four bodies responsible for monitoring global temperatures, announced that October 2008 was the “hottest on record”. Which must have come as something of a shock to the countless millions who trudged through the heavy snow and ice in what they had been told was an unseasonally cold October. But then Hansen should know. He is, after all, climate alarmism’s ‘Mr Big’. But then this is far from the first time Hansen has been caught ‘fiddling’ the climate figures.

In October, two independent monitors at Watts Up With That and Climate Audit, performed their own detailed analysis of Hansen’s reported data. What they found should disturb us all. They discovered that the GISS readings from across a swathe of Russia that appeared to reveal a warming of 10 degrees above average were not readings for October at all. They were a repeat of September’s readings. [Read more…]
