Ann Coulter: Starved for justice

Coulter weighs in:

Democrats have called out armed federal agents in order to: 1) prevent black children from attending a public school in Little Rock, Ark. (National Guard), 2) investigate an alleged violation of federal gun laws in Waco, Texas (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms), and 3) deport a small boy to Cuba (Immigration and Naturalization Service).

So how about a Republican governor sending in the National Guard to stop an innocent American woman from being starved to death in Florida? Republicans like the military. Democrats get excited about the use of military force only when it’s against Americans.

  2. Powerline explains how this happened

Go to Powerlineblog.com for a good description of Michael Shiavo’s effective legal maneuvering.

Under both state and federal procedure the “real action” in any lawsuit occurs at the entry level of the trial court. In this initial stage the parties are given an opportunity to offer evidence. After all sides have offered evidence, something important happens, the official record of the case closes. Every court which looks at the case after the record closes can only look at the evidence frozen into the original transcript. No new evidence is allowed.

So, Michael Shiavo had some very good trial attorneys present a decent case in his favor. This factual presentation was not effectively refuted by the Schindler attorney. Shiavo had a big slush fund to spend on lawyers fees. The Schindler’s were ordinary middle class people who had a volunteer lawyer. Apparently the volunteer lawyer didn’t fully appreciate how hard Michael Shiavo would push the issue. If the Shindler’s did not get the necessary evidence into the record at the first time that the Court considered the issue of Terri’s intent, there is no way that they could reopen that issue. The record was closed.

Frankly, I think that Michael Shiavo abused Terri and that there exists medical evidence which could prove that. Heaven help us all.
