\nPresident Barack Obama again invoked his daughters as reasons to support the abortion industry<\/a> in a campaign stop in Portland, Oregon, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Romney wants to get rid of funding for Planned Parenthood<\/a>,\u201d the president told nearly 1,000 donors at the Oregon Convention Center. \u201cI think that is a bad idea. I\u2019ve got two daughters. I want them to control their own health care choices. We\u2019re not going backwards; we\u2019re going forwards.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reference echoes a comment he made in 2008 on the campaign trail. \u201cI\u2019ve got two daughters, 9 years old and 6 years old,\u201d he said. \u201cIf they make a mistake, I don\u2019t want them punished with a baby<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n

In yesterday\u2019s remarks, the president applied the same phrase he used of Planned Parenthood, the nation\u2019s leading abortion provider, to his health care law. \u201cThe Supreme Court has spoken. We are now implementing it,\u201d he said. \u201cThirty million people will have health insurance that didn\u2019t have it before. Women will have control of their health care choices.\u201d The comment drew a boisterous ovation.<\/p>\n

Critics of ObamaCare have long warned the health care law will provide for federal funding of abortions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His reference to his daughters came just after the president criticized Mitt Romney for not supporting his repeal of the military\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Ask, Don\u2019t Tell\u201d<\/a> policy. He had previously cited his daughters\u2019 advice<\/a> for his decision to support same-sex \u201cmarriage.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Obama later drew another contrast with Romney, saying, \u201cI believe in bottom-up economics.\u201d He pledged to continue \u201cinvesting in clean energy and making sure that solar panels and wind turbines are built here in the United States of America.\u201d<\/p>\n

At several points he punctuated<\/a> the speech, which highlighted his support of a number of left-of-center positions, with the phrase, \u201cWe\u2019re not going backwards; we\u2019re going forwards.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the speech, he said he would be outspent<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 37-minute speech came before two additional fundraisers<\/a>: A $5,000-a-plate fundraiser with 200 donors and a $38,500-a-plate fundraiser with 20 donors.<\/p>\n

The speech contained a notable reference, as the president cited the Declaration of Independence\u2019s guarantee that \u201cwe were endowed with certain inalienable rights by our Creator, life and liberty and this pursuit of happiness.\u201d He has a history<\/a> of omitting the words \u201cby our Creator\u201d<\/a> in past speeches.<\/p>\n
