The Rev. Eugene Vansuch of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Bethlehem has a special spiritual place in his home. Orthodox Christians call it an icon corner or prayer corner.

Some of the objects on a table there include a prayer book, a candle and some icons.

But it isn’t just a place to display religious items.

It’s a place that encourages prayer.

“If we don’t have any type of personal relationship with Christ our life is empty, and prayer enhances our relationship with our Lord,” Vansuch says. “Our lives can be so hectic with so many demands and pressures. To be able to deal with these situations we need some additional support, and we can get that support with personal prayer time.”
