The following files are the slides used by me in helping to educate our seminarians and the delegates to the Diocesan Assembly on one of the most pervasive and destructive problems here in our God-protected Diocese of Alaska. As a physician I see the ravages of both the abuse of alcohol by our young people and the destructive effects of alcohol addiction on our adults and their families. I have been lecturing on this subject for over 20 years in the United States Armed Forces, trying to help young people and their leaders to understand how alcohol works as a drug and how to recognize and fight the effects of addiction. The problem has a huge spiritual dimension that is frequently neglected in treatment approaches around the world, but is the cornerstone of the single most effective organization combating these problems today, Alcoholics Anonymous. Please feel free to download and use this information in your parishes and schools and please feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance in this Spiritual Warfare that touches all of us sooner or later.

Deacon Whitehurst's entire presentation can be found at the Diocese of Alaska website.
